NOTES ON AUGUSTA NATIONAL (Final SE Revision)
Course Name: Augusta National Golf Club, annual home of The Masters
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Length/Par: 3,465/36 - 3,440/36 - 6,905/72
Designer: Alister Mackenzie, Robert Tyre Jones Jr.
Difficulty: Moderate. Fairway are wide, but greens are tough. So what
else is new about Augusta National.
Thanks to: Scott Chesney: for his pines which he has created with JNUG
for various courses. Although I've adapted these trees to the SE
pallette, everyone of these pines are Scott's originals
John Kunyik: for his new pallette editor, which was the
key to being able to do some of the April coloring that
we all associate with Augusta National at Masters time
JNUG Design: Lee Ritze (VIALEE on Accolade and Genie BBS's, TKNK81A on
Prodigy)
Sources: The World Atlas of Golf Courses (ISBN 0-792-45284-4)

This is my official "update" to JNSE of the Augusta National I created for
JNUG in November 1991. This replaces a preliminary SE upgrade I released
just before the 1992 Masters for friends who were anxious to play along with
the pros.
With the increased difficulty in scoring that is imposed by JNSE, there is
no longer the need as there was in JNUG to "trick up" a course in order to
have it play similarly to the real course. I've attempted to model
Augusta National as realistically as I can, with much wider fairways than in
my JNUG rendition. At the same time, I've increased some of the mounding
and deepened many of the traps to reflect what I saw on TV in watching this
year's Masters broadcast. Since JNSE can present elevation differences
much more accurately without going "cubist", I was able to do some elevations
that I held back on in JNUG.
While getting from tee to green should be fairly straightforward for most of
us, the greens are punishing if you are far away... or if you hit your
approach on the wrong side of the hole. If I've done a good job here, you'll
have to use your acquired knowledge of Augusta National from TV viewing to
plan your approaches. For example, stay below the cup on the 9th with your
approach.
Comments, criticisms and suggestions for new course settings are always
welcome, through GEnie, Prodigy, Accolade BBS, Double Eagle, or mail.
